Start putting fun in

Doug Hall – a business writer came up with today’s quote and I hope –no I know he’s right – so here it is –

“You can increase your brain power three to fivefold simply by laughing and having fun before working on a problem.”

What an amazing call to action and attitude! How can we put more fun in?

A couple of ideas come to mind:

  1. Look at cartoons or re-read a funny card
  2. Watch a funny YouTube video
  3. Play with a pooch or your cat, goat or goose (at least those are my choices!)
  4. Share a joke or read one

When you laugh, giggle or smile your brain power increases fivefold according to Doug Hall – if he’s right, and I believe he is, how easy is this? Wow!

Are you a winner?

The following example come out of a quote book I have called, “Whatever It Takes” from The Edge Learning Center and the following was not attributed to anyone though it was probably Bob Moawad and I wanted to share it with you since it’s all about attitude:

Losers always have an excuse;

Winners always have an idea.

Losers fix the blame;

Winners fix the situation.

Losers make promises;

Winners keep commitments.

Losers let it happen;

Winners make it happen.

Losers say, “Why don’t they do something?”

Winners say, “Here’s something I can do.”

Reading something like this is a good way to check yourself. Am I fixing blame or the situation? Am I keeping the commitments I make?

These are choices – most everything is a choice and with the right thinking and attitude we will make better and better choices.

I choose to get up!

Man's Search For Meaning by Viktor E Frankl

Man's Search For Meaning by Viktor E Frankl (Photo credit: Pickersgill Reef)

In the morning I awake and do my reading and prayers.

One of the things I read is a book of daily thoughts from Louise Hays. Today the message was to drop this phrase from your vocabularly, “I have to” – and to replace it with this attitude, “I choose to.”

What a powerful shift!

Life, actions, behaviors and beliefs are a choice! What are you choosing? Do you say, “I have to get up.” or “I have to go to work.” or “I  have to finish that project.” – what if you shifted all those to something exciting – “I choose to get up.” and “I choose to go to work.” and “I choose to finish that project.”

You could even add how you choose – “I choose to get up energized.” or “I choose to go to work and do my best.” and “I choose to finish this project with creativity and focus.”

Wow!

Then the quote I had planned reinforced this concept. It’s by Victor Frankl who wrote “Man’s Search for Meaning” and I recommend it. It’s about the concentration camps and how those with the power to choose their attitude had the power of life.

Here’s the quote: “Everything can be taken from man except the last of the human freedoms, his ability to choose his own attitude in any given set of circumstances – to choose his own way.”

Two differnt authors giving the same powerful message. For me this means I need to listen and use this to my own benefit. What about you?

Why not decide right now?

Monday is a great day to set your week – what will you focus on this week?

Idea: select a theme for your week – something you will be aware of – weave into your being, take on and do – this will help focus you and develop new habits.

This week the blog theme is attitude – simply by reading the post each day you can develop new thinking and application.

Another idea is to determine one action you will take towards your goals each day – like 15 or even 5 minutes of quiet thinking time to visualize, or reading 3 pages a day in a book on your interest. Doing small steps in the right direction will get you where you want to go.

Don Ward once said, “Your mind can focus on fear, worry, problems, negativity or despair. Or it can focus on confidence, opportunity, solutions, optimism and success. You decide.”

What will your mind focus on this week? It’s up to you – why not decide right now?

Let’s meet halfway

Bruce Van Horn said this, “One of the most important trips a man can make is that involved in meeting the other fellow halfway.”

Think of that saying – an important trip – life to me is a journey – and sometimes in especially difficult or interesting times it’s easy to forget that each journey has peaks and valleys.

Regardless of where you are in your life adventure – others have walked that path before you and will after you.

Who can you meet half way today? Who can you help along the way? Are you enjoying your journey? How can you make your life even better by taking a step toward someone?

Friday Funny

After 20 years of marriage, a couple was lying in bed one evening, when the wife felt her husband begin to fondle her in ways he hadn’t in quite some time.

It almost tickled as his fingers started at her neck, and then began moving down past the small of her back.

He then caressed her shoulders and neck, slowly worked his hand down over her chest, stopping just over her lower stomach.

He then proceeded to place his hand on her left inner arm, caressed past the side of her chest again, working down her side, passed gently over her buttock and down her leg to her calf.

Then, he proceeded up her inner thigh, stopping just at the uppermost portion of her leg. He continued in the same manner on her right side, then suddenly stopped, rolled over and started to watch the TV.

As she had become quite aroused by this caressing, she asked in a loving voice, “That was wonderful. Why did you stop?”

He said, “I found the remote”.

Is there someone who can lean on you today?

•February 16, 2012 • Leave a Comment

BlessingsThis quote from Sir Walter Scott pleases me because it makes me think of all those who have helped me.

Here it is: “The races of mankind would perish did they cease to aid each other. From the time that the mother binds the child’s head till the moment that some kind assistant wipes the brow of the dying, we cannot exist without mutual help.”

People have helped me all of my life – in subtle and also intensely wonderful ways and people still help me.

I’m the age when it’s my blessing to be of help to others and it’s a privilege. When I remember that as I aid the elderly, or read aloud with a child I am simply a part of the bigger circle and the circle was rolling well before me and will continue to roll along well after me

I am grateful for the parents and teachers who were loving and patient with me and I expect that someone will be patient and loving as I become more slow or frail.

It’s beautiful really to know that in this wonderful life journey we will traverse it with others and sometimes be the support and sometimes be supported.

Is there someone who can lean on you today?

To Untie is Better

English: one of many knots

Joseph Joubert said something short and profound – “Never cut what you can untie.”

I found this to be profound because I think my natural tendency is to cut and move on – however the simple lesson in these six words can evoke a change in us.

Asking yourself – can I untie this? Is a good question when something happens not to your liking.

Would it be better to be gentle rather than harsh and cutting? Because you never know when you will need to re-tie something, reconnect or reconstruct something – like a relationship, especially in business.

Another lesson here is that it’s far easier, at least for me, to cut and move on. It’s quick and effective – The untying may take longer and more care and like most quality things in life is worth it.

“Never cut what you can untie.”

Love the 10%

Samuel Goldwyn once said, “Ninety per cent of the art of
living consists of getting on with people one cannot stand.”

So then in my mind the other 10% of life is the bliss and
joy and excitement of being with people you adore – the goal of course then
would be to focus on being with those you like more often than not.

William Saroyan “Love doesn’t have to be perfect. Even
perfect, it is still the best thing there is, for the simple reason that it is
the most common and constant truth of all, of all life, all law and order, the
very thing which holds everything together, which permits everything to move
along in time and be its wonderful or ordinary self.”

Happy Valentine’s Day – be with those you adore and love
them lots!

Joyous Success

Linkware Freebie Image Teamwork Puzzle Concept...

This week I’ve selected the theme – cooperation – It’s only through all of us cooperating with each other that we can have joyous success.

Note that I didn’t say success – because you can be successful in many ways all by your lonesome –

I’m talking about joyous success – where others are happy for you and help you and feel like they are winning too. That’s joy – to be so happy for someone else’s success that it feels like your own.

John Craig said this true statement – “No matter how much work a man can do, no matter how engaging his personality may be, he will not advance far in business if he cannot work through others.”

One of the accountability members set this as their goal for the week – find 3 people I can add value to – what a call to action! What a way to cooperate! Can you do this?

The answer is yes.

Velvety Passion Flower

Author Joe Vitale shared this about when he gave his “15 Minute Miracle” talk in Maui, the message was that this moment is the one you are seeking, yet it’s also the one you are dismissing.

When you appreciate this moment, you’re at one with all and you’ve experienced the greatest miracle of all: happiness.

Are you in this moment, or reflecting on the past or dreaming about the future?

Are you in this moment, or waiting for something to happen to feel happy again?

Are you in this moment, or reliving a past memory that you thought was better than now?

The miracle is now.

Be here now.

Friday Funny

On the first day of college, the Dean addressed the students:

“The female dormitory is out-of-bounds for all male students, and the male dormitory to the female students. Anybody caught breaking this rule will be fined $20 the first time. The second time you will be fined $60. A third time will cost you a fine of $180. Are there any questions?”

A male student inquired, “How much for a season pass?”

You create your day by the way you think. Make it magnificent.
