Getting accountability to work

Accountability is an interesting topic – and one I hear bandied about by clients and business media – “How do I make my employees or team accountable?”It’s a good question!


What is accountability and why want it? Accountability – or answerability, responsibility – the dictionary says: responsible to somebody or for something


 –the deeper issue here, it seems to me, is what we say or agree to be responsible for. Then it’s less a matter of accountability and one of integrity.


Integrity means: possession of firm principles – the quality of possessing and steadfastly adhering to high moral principles or professional standards: (Encarta Dictionary)


So when we say we will do something – and we are responsible or have integrity, the accountability simply happens – it’s when we (or someone) doesn’t act responsibly or doesn’t do what we/they say (breaks integrity) we speak about accountability.


So the steps to accountably begin with this:

Can I be responsible and act in integrity with this choice or decision?


Today as you move through and create your life – what are you agreeing to be responsible for? Does that fit your life and desires? Do you understand that you are agreeing to be responsible for things you choose?


You create your day by the way you think – go make it magnificent!
