Did you do it?

In our early morning call this year we’re doing things a bit different – on Monday’s each person on the call states the one to three things they will accomplish in a week –

On Friday they weigh in on how they did –

It’s simple too – I call out what they committed to and they say yes or no –

Of course yes feels good and no feels less than good –

The real beauty however is in the asking – do you do it? and it is really a yes or no answer –

Most of us want to tell the story – why we did or didn’t do something, what happened to help us or get in the way.

This muddles things up – because we give too much power to the circumstances when if we really wanted to get something done we would do it. And if we didn’t do it we get to ask ourselves what we will do differently next time or if we really wanted what we stated. This focus brings out all kinds of more interesting things than the story of what happened.

I am a lover of stories like most people – so to clarify – the stories to watch out for are the ones we tell to justify or explain – they don’t have the elements of a truly compelling story which holds trials and triumphs, discovery and redemption.

Today – the question to ask yourself is: Did you do what you said you would do? There is still time – do it now!
