People Skills: Compliments – Thank you!

One way to take a compliment is by saying: Thank you – however this may not be your best way – though it works. However if your goal is relational results – it would be better to do better than the standard and stand alone, “Thank you” that your mother made you say. Why? Because when you say a simple “thank you” it’s all about you. The exchange usually is:

  1. Someone went out of their way to say something nice.
  2. You took it and gave back a route, average, ordinary reply. “Thank you”

If you want to really have profitable people skills. You will say something better than a mere or stand alone “thank you”. You will recognize the risk and wonder of someone saying anything at all. Especially in this day and age when you never know how someone will take something.

Let the other person know that it mattered that they spoke, that they acted, that they did something nice to you.

“That is so nice of you to say!” or “You’ve made my day” are two ideas – what others can you use?

You create your day by the way you think. Make it magnificent!
