Do you test your manners?

To end our week on manners we go to Wendell Willkie who said a great truth, “The test of good manners is to be able to put up pleasantly with bad ones.”

55 word story:

Mary Young is the author – the title: Death of a Neighbor

My neighbor died yesterday. Roberta was a large woman with auburn hair I admired. Though a private person, she was passionately interested in me. Her adoration confused me. I barely knew her. After the funeral, Roberta’s nephew handed me an inscribed hatbox. It read: “For lovely Catherine – my auburn wig. Your neighbor, Robert Whiting.”

Joke of the week:

A bank had been robbed three times by the same bandit in the space of two months, and on each occasion he escaped with a substantial amount of cash. After the third raid, a senior detective was brought in to quiz the bank teller in the hope of unearthing some clues. “Have you noticed anything distinctive about the robber?” he asked. “There is one thing,” replied the teller. “Each time he turns up, he’s better dressed.”
