The very best you can…

Abraham Lincoln has something interesting to say about being the best. As a matter of fact there are two quotes from Abraham Lincoln today. I found it interesting that he is quoted twice in my quote book under this topic.

“I do the very best I know how – the very best I can; and mean to keep doing so until the end. If the end brings me out all right, what is said against me won’t amount to anything. If the end brings me out wrong, ten angels swearing I was right would make no difference.”

This struck me as interesting – knowing how history played out – this shows us that Lincoln was concerned with his decisions – that he was thoughtful about what he was doing and that his intent was to do his best and keep on doing it – what a wonderful standard – are we always doing our best? Do we think about that really?

Something else interesting fro Nelson Boswell, “the difference between greatness and mediocrity is often how an individual views a mistake.” We will not be our best if we allow mistakes to derail us – how do you view the things you do wrong, or less well – as a pain or opportunity? Which choice is best?
