More of Life We Live, More of Life We Can Give.

Today I will again give two quotes – the first is from Bonaro W. Overstreet who said, “We can give only what we have to give. We can write out a check for a good cause only if we have money in the bank to cover the check. And in like fashion we can give understanding only if we have understanding. We can give a contagious sense of the heights and depths of life only if we have earned, and have in our possession, a feeling of those heights and depths.”

Which is why living life to the fullest, taking every bit we can to learn, grow, be and do is so vital, because the more of life we live, the more of life we can give.

Second quote is one of my favorites and is part of a longer piece I used to read every day – it’s by St. Francis of Assisi –
“O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood, as to understand, to be loved, as to love; for it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.”

Friday Story:

A missionary was sailing home on a furlough when she heard a cry one night – a cry that is perhaps the most frightening to hear when at sea: Man overboard!” She quickly arose from her berth, lit her cabin lamp, and then held it at the window of her cabin in hopes of seeing some sign of life in the murky waters outside.

Seeing nothing, she hung the lamp back on its bracket, snuffed it out, and returned to her berth to pray for the man lost at sea. In the morning, she discovered the man  had been rescued. Not only that, but she learned it was the flash of her lamp through the porthole that showed the rescuers the location of the missing man, who was desperately clinging to a rope still attached to the deck. He was pulled from the cold waters in the nick of time. Her small deed of shining a lamp at the right time had saved a man’s life.

It isn’t the size of the deeds you do that counts. It’s the fact that you do them for good – and trust God to use every deed you do to serve the lives of others.

Shine your light today – you never know who is feeling lost in darkness!
