I’m grateful on this gratitude week to be back in the office from travels -

I’m grateful for you as a reader also – thank you!

Our last quote this week is from Priscilla Wayne – who said something short and true, “As bread is the staff of life, the simple sustenance of the body, so appreciation is the food of the soul.”

Who can we be grateful for today and when can we tell them?

Friday Funny

An 8-year-old girl went to her grandfather, who was working in the yard and asked him,
“Grampa, what is couple sex?”

The grandfather was surprised that she would ask such a question, but decided that if
she’s old enough to know to ask the question, then she’s old enough to get a straight answer.
Steeling himself to leave nothing out, he proceeded to tell her all about human reproduction
and the joys and responsibilities of intercourse.

When he finished explaining, the little girl was looking at him with her mouth hanging open,
eyes wide in amazement.

Seeing the look on her face, the grandfather asked her, “Why did you ask this question, honey?”

The little girl replied, “Grandma says that dinner will be ready in just a couple secs.”

Concentrate on it

This week the focus is gratitude – and it is indeed an attitude – to be grateful, to look for things to be thankful for – to constantly give thanks – for everything, everyone, and to everyone – wow!

Amy Vanderbilt said our first quote on gratitude, “When we learn to give thanks, we are learning to concentrate not on the bad things, but on the good things in our lives.”

What are you concentrating or focusing on? Today make it about the positive and being grateful. You’ll notice a difference in yourself right away. Do this – it’s wonderful.

Bury the faults

The final quote on friendship for the week is also good advice – it was coined by Henry Ward Beecher who said,

“Every man should have a fair-sized cemetery in which to bury the faults of his friends.”

I would add that we can double the cemetery size and also bury the faults of our families as well. –

Bury the faults and find the fabulous! This is a great call to action!

Friday Funny

Four high school boys afflicted with spring fever skipped morning classes. After lunch they reported to their teacher that they had a flat tire.

Much to their relief she smiled and said: “Well, you missed a test today so take seats apart from one another and take out a piece of paper.”

Still smiling, she waited for them to sit down. Then she said:

“First Question: Which tire was flat?”

Friends are mirrors

Ken Keyes informs us today: “A loving person lives in a loving world. A hostile person lives in a hostile world. Everyone you meet is your mirror.”

This is wonderful – your friends are a mirror – do you enjoy and appreciate how special your friends are? Do you realize you are too?

Do you have a friend that irritates you? What might that say about you?

Is there a friend or someone who can help you to see yourself better today?

Remember – you create your day by the way you think. Make it magnificent!

Focus out

Friendship, Göteborg, Sweden

The quote today you may have heard, Dale Carnegie said it and it’s been repeated many times and it’s so true –

“You can make more friends in two months by becoming really interested in other people, than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you.”

So our challenge each day is – are we interested in others?

Once I heard someone say – “I don’t need any more friends, I’ve got plenty of those” and I felt odd – can you ever have enough friends? Maybe there is only so much life to share with intimate friends maybe.

However all people can be your friend if you show interest in them – and this person obviously was not focused out.

A good lesson really because when we are outward focused we gain friends, love and joy.

Where are you focused?

Can you focus on being interested on others today? The answer is yes!

Remember – you create your day by the way you think. Make it magnificent!

A Flock of Friends

You may have heard the story, and I’m no doubt mixing it up a bit, about how geese fly in formation – with different geese taking the lead or most wind resistant spot to move the flock forward. They share leadership.

This way all the geese help each other succeed.

Also that the geese call out to each other constantly as encouragement.

I’ve also heard that if one goose is tired or needs to land, another goose goes with so that they are safer and can help each other get back to the flock.

Pretty impressive friendships I’d say.

It’s also how they stay alive and thrive.

George Matthew Adams, “Nothing in this world appeases loneliness as does a flock of friends! You can select them at random, write to one, dine with one, visit one, or take your problems to one. There is always a least one who will understand, inspire, and give you the lift you may need at the time. Fortify yourself with a flock of friends!”

I love that saying – a flock of friends – like a flock of geese, each helping each other succeed.

Can you honk out some encouragement to a friend today? Go ahead and fly right!

Remember, you create your day by the way you think. Make it magnificent!

Make it less difficult

Two friends

Two friends (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

This week’s theme is friendship.

As we begin the 19th week of 2012 – it’s a good time to reflect on the inner circle relationships we have.

Are you connecting with your friends as often as you would like? When was the last time you told them you loved them?

Would today be a good time? This week can you schedule time to meet or chat with a friend?

My friends have given my life more joy than I can describe – focusing this week on friendship will help remind me to appreciate, praise and reconnect with those people who give my life more color, adventure and joy.

George Eliot once said, “What do we live for, if it is not to make life less difficult for each other?”

I would add – to love and give to each other is also very cool.

Right now as you read these words be thinking – who shall I call, email, text or send a note to that would make their day, remind them I love them and be a special gift?

You have the power to connect, you have the power to praise, and you have the power to be a friend. Will you use this power today? I hope so.

Remember, you create your day by the way you think. Make it magnificent!
